I'm writing to you today to ask for your help in the months ahead.
The last year has been unlike any other in our lifetime. As your City Councilor, serving during the COVID-19 Pandemic has meant fighting for transparency, equity, and resources to keep our community safe and healthy. From Virtual Town Hall Meetings to share information, to assisting residents one-on-one with accessing unemployment and housing resources, it has been my honor to work directly with so many constituents during this unprecedented time.
In the midst of this, we've still been working to advance our community focused legislative agenda. I introduced and passed legislation to protect our neighborhoods and ensure our limited housing stock was not oversaturated by out-of-town "short term rental" agencies. We stood up to block tax incentives for polluting industries that have long targeted our city. We joined together with colleagues to advance the long-standing effort to restore a Civilian Board of Police Commissioners. And we're leading a multi-city effort against unfair data-caps being imposed by internet service providers.
These are just a few of the efforts that we have undertaken together in the last year. But to continue building on this work, I need your support in this year's November election.
Normally around this time I would be sending you an invitation to our Volunteer Luncheon, an invite-only tradition that we have grown through my last two elections as an opportunity to catch up with friends and supporters, thank you for your past efforts, and plan for the year ahead before the election season formally begins with the availability of nomination papers.
We won't be able to enjoy lunch together just yet, but we still wanted to bring our team together virtually to update you about this past year on the City Council, and discuss what we know will be a very different campaign in the year ahead.
It is your continued support that has made our work on the City Council possible. I would be honored if you would join us virtually on February 21st at 1:00 PM for the opportunity to thank you, and to once again ask for your support to fight for a safer, healthier, more prosperous Springfield for all of our neighborhoods.
