SPRINGFIELD -- Some elected officials, led by new City Councilor Jesse Lederman, have scheduled a town hall-style meeting with residents Feb. 22. The event is intended to enhance community engagement.

The meeting is at the Rebecca Johnson School, 55 Catharine St., beginning at 6 p.m. The doors open at 5:30.

Lederman, who took office in January as a victorious at-large council candidate, said the meeting follows through on a campaign pledge to provide "regular community updates to constituents and improve community engagement with elected officials."

"I believe residents should have the opportunity to engage with their elected officials on a regular basis, and not just during election season," Lederman said. "I am looking forward to the opportunity to hear residents' questions, concerns, and ideas as well as share with them an update on the City Council's work thus far this year."

Co-hosts will be Councilors E. Henry Twiggs (Ward 4), Justin Hurst (at large), Kateri Walsh (at large) and Adam Gomez (Ward 1), as well as school committee members LaTonia Monroe Naylor (at large), Denise Hurst (at large) and Barbara Gresham (District 2). A representative from the office of state Rep. Bud Williams plans to attend.

The event is supported by the McKnight Neighborhood Council, Lederman said.

"I am glad to be joined by my colleagues for this event," Lederman said. "We hope that by bringing together elected officials from various levels of local government we will be able to answer a wide variety of questions."

The event will also be live-streamed on Lederman's Facebook page.

Lederman said he plans to announce additional town hall meetings across the city.
