City Councilor Jesse Lederman to Hold Hearing on Water Contamination

At-Large Springfield City Councilor Jesse Lederman, Chairman of the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee, has scheduled a Committee Meeting for Wednesday, January 30th at 5:30 PM to discuss the recent report of increased levels of haloacetic acids in Springfield’s tap water. The public meeting will take place at Springfield City Hall

The public was notified of this violation by the Springfield Water and Sewer Department beginning last week via a Press Release as well as letters mailed to their homes.

“It is important to note at this time that it has been indicated to us that there is no immediate threat to public health,” said Lederman “However we believe it is important for the public and the Council to receive more detailed information and have the opportunity to get their questions answered.”

The meeting will include a presentation by the Springfield Water and Sewer Department as well as questioning by Councilors. Lederman will also be extending invitations to local public health organizations as well as state regulatory officials.
