Councilor Lederman Issues Statement on Memorial Day 2020

On this Memorial Day in the year 2020 City Councilor Jesse Lederman issues the following statement:

“This year we face a Memorial Day much different than in years past. While the current state of our world has changed the ways in which we will mark this solemn occasion in honor of those who gave all in the course of their service, we must not allow it to diminish the gravity of their sacrifice.

While the large parades and memorial services that have come to signify our thanks and remembrance over the years may not take place this year, we can turn inward to give thanks and honor the brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of our country and our freedoms.

This Memorial Day I will be visiting privately the memorials maintained by our city to pay my respects to the fallen, and will be joining volunteers to flag the graves of our servicemen and women throughout Springfield. I am grateful to those who have stepped up to organize flagging this year.

I encourage all to mark this day in their own unique ways, if only to pause in a moment of remembrance, for all the friends, family members, neighbors, and patriots who did not return.”
