Councilor Lederman Co-Chairs Hearing on Regional Housing Analysis

On Wednesday, May 5, 2021 Councilor Lederman, Chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee, convened a joint hearing of the Health and Human Services Committee, Economic Development Committee, and General Government Committee along with Chairman Melvin Edwards and Chairman Malo Brown to review the recently released Greater Springfield Housing Analysis conducted by Wayfinders and the UMass Donahue Institute.

“This report must be a call to action for local, state, and federal policy makers. The COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the housing challenges in our communities, but these challenges are not isolated to just the impact of the pandemic,” said At-Large City Councilor Jesse Lederman, “We must seize this moment together to ensure proper investment in housing to support individuals, families, neighborhoods, and our local economy.”

“Stable housing is foundational to the success of individuals and families in the City of Springfield,” said Ward 3 City Councilor Melvin Edwards, “I believe that by working together Springfield can be a leader in solving these challenges, and I look forward to the dialogue spurred by this important report.”

“Our constituents live the reality of this data every day. The work to prepare for the future of housing must start now,” said Ward 4 City Councilor Malo Brown.
