Frontline UFCW 1459 Union Backs Lederman for a Third Term

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1459 has endorsed At-Large Springfield City Councilor Jesse Lederman for re-election.

UFCW Local 1459 is the largest union in Western Massachusetts with over 4,000 members including workers in both private and public sectors including school bus drivers, grocery store workers, nursing home workers, warehouse workers, DPW employees, security guards, and more.

“Jesse Lederman is a powerful and reliable advocate for working people in Springfield. We saw that in him after his first interview with us years ago. Since our endorsement of him then, he has surpassed our expectations and continued to work on behalf of all his constituents to ensure that they are represented at the highest level,” said Matt Szulborski, Executive Vice president and Political Director for UFCW 1459, “Jesse works every day to make sure that working people are treated fairly and are not overlooked.”

Councilor Lederman has been endorsed by the UFCW Local 1459 since his first campaign for the City Council in 2015.

“I am grateful for the continued partnership and support from the members of UFCW 1459. UFCW 1459 members were on the frontline keeping our communities running during the COVID-19 pandemic at great personal risk," said At-Large Springfield City Councilor Jesse Lederman, “I’ve been proud to stand with them in many campaigns to support workers as they fought for a living wage and benefits to support their families and community, and I will never forget their support and the experiences they have shared with me. We will never back down from the fight for working people across our city.”

Last week, Councilor Lederman announced the endorsement of the Western Massachusetts Area Labor Federation.

City Councilor Jesse Lederman is a two-term member of the Springfield City Council where he serves as Chairman of the COVID-19 Response Committee, the Committee on Health and Human Services, and the Committee on Sustainability and Environment.

Councilor Lederman also serves as the Chairman of the Springfield Democratic City Committee, as a member of the Democratic State Committee, a member of the Board of Directors of the Springfield Preservation Trust, and on the Leadership Board of Reading Success by 4th Grade, Springfield's early literacy initiative.

He is a member of the Honorary Deputy Sheriffs Association of Hampden County. Jesse formerly served on the Board of Directors of the McKnight Neighborhood Council, the Springfield Armory Alliance, and the Governing Board of the Springfield Renaissance School.

Councilor launched his re-election campaign earlier this summer with a video announcement that has now been viewed over 4,000 times on social media. That video can be found on Facebook and YouTube.
